On the sidelines of the 56th Munich Security Conference, the Head of State held meetings with the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, and the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Peter Maurer.
Bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and the WHO, including countering of the Coronavirus outbreak were discussed during the meeting with Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke about the measures taken in Kazakhstan to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
The Head of WHO briefed the President with the latest information on the situation around the Coronavirus outbreak in the world.
The prospects for the development of strengthening ties between Kazakhstan and the ICRC were discussed at the meeting with Peter Maurer. The two also exchanged views on issues of mutual interest on the international agenda.
Highly appreciating the level of interaction with the ICRC, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev thanked Peter Maurer for the ICRC’s high assessment of the humanitarian operations “Jusan” and “Rusafa” carried out by Kazakhstan.
In turn, Peter Maurer expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity to open a representative office of the ICRC in Kazakhstan.
Following the meeting, President Tokayev conferred Peter Maurer the “Dostyk” Order of the II degree for his contribution to the development of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the ICRC.
