On the margins of the Central Asia – European Union Summit, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
The discussion covered priority areas of bilateral cooperation.
The parties commended the launch of visa facilitation negotiations between the European Commission and Kazakhstan.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement remains the backbone of the Kazakh-EU multifaceted engagement. He outlined at least four areas, where Kazakhstan has the potential to deepen its cooperation with Europe, including energy, major infrastructure and industrial projects, digital innovation, and artificial intelligence.
In turn, Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the importance of implementing projects in the field of transport and logistics, particularly within the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. She also congratulated Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the recently announced discovery of a major rare earth metals deposit in Kazakhstan, reinforcing its role in Europe’s green and tech transitions.
Both leaders reaffirmed their support for the C5+EU platform as a pillar for regional and global dialogue.
